Dear Minister,

Canadians coast-to-coast are alarmed that the Canadian government will
be allowing U.S. authorities to take private information of Canadian
flight passengers for the simple reason they are visiting countries in
the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The "Secure Flight" program created by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security would see this country's airlines hand over personal
information of Canadians to U.S. security forces. This includes full
name, as the name appears on his/her passport
* Date of birth
* Gender
* Known traveler number (if applicable), identifying someone who the
U.S. government has already screened and ruled not a security threat.

Canadian carriers would also be encouraged to transmit further details
about passengers, including their itineraries, with a listing of their
departure airport codes, airlines, departure/arrival times and arrival
airport codes.

There are 1 million immigrants in Canada whose families are from south
of the U.S. border. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians visit Cuba
every year.

Canada's multicultural reality and it's excellent relations with Cuba
and Latin America makes this U.S. plan ludicrous and misplaced. The
plan will result in hundreds of thousands of innocent Canadians being
unfairly placed under U.S. scrutiny.

If the Canadian government is to remain sovereign, it must reject this
foreign plan that threatens the security of hundreds of thousands of
Canadians for the simple reason that they are free to travel and have
warm relations with our neighbours south of the U.S. border.
